Justin Trudeau's attempts to "curry" favour with Canada's Indian voters seem to be getting out of hand.
While news media focused on his adoption of Indian dress on a recent family holiday to India, less well known is that the Canadian Prime Minister and ex-drama teacher also adopted other aspects of Indian culture during his vacation. These included shitting in the street and wiping his arse with his hand.
Street shitting, or "open defecation" as it is more politely known, is extremely common in India, where a lack of modern plumbing means that a large section of the population typically uses this traditional Indian method. It is estimated that one in two people in the country -- around 600 million people -- defecate in the open air, using a cup of water and their hand to clean the affected area.
Trudeau's adoption of open defecation as a means of "outreach" to Indo-Canadians may backfire, not only because most Indo-Canadians prefer not to be reminded of it but because Canada's Prime Minister may have greatly increased his chances of catching typhoid, cholera, hepatitis, or explosive diarrhoea.
