It seems that being called "Rocket Man" by Donald Trump, aka "Twitter Man," has done little to weaken the power of Kim Jong Un. In fact quite the reverse -- it has merely strengthened his brand as a nuclear strongman, capable of wreaking havoc and destruction on his enemies and shaking the stock market.
This is clearly how Kim is being seen in neighbouring South Korea, where the government is breaking ranks with allies Japan and America (currently distracted by the "take a knee" controversy) to offer Kim more tribute.
The South Korean government announced on Thursday (21st Sept) that it would send food supplies worth $8 million to North Korea, whose agricultural output has suffered from under-investment due to the emphasis on developing effective nuclear weapons.
As reported by Nikkei:
"The Ministry of Unification said that a committee chaired by Minister Cho Myoung-gyon approved a plan to offer $3.5 million to UNICEF and $4.5 million to the World Food Program... The decision came one day after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to totally destroy North Korea if it continues to develop nuclear arms. Trump's threat came during his first speech at the United Nations' General Assembly...Seoul's decision is expected to invite opposition from Japan, a key regional ally. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe raised questions about the aid plan in a phone call with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Sept. 15 after a North Korean missile flew over northern Japan."
It is interesting to see South Korea "bending a knee" to Kim, just as its main ally the USA has been brought down low by the ridiculous "bend a knee" American football controversy, which has revealed the hollowness of the country's patriotism, its deep disunity, and its inability to fight any war that doesn't just involve bombing with drones and then running away.
As America issues cheap threats and bickers with itself, the power of Kim continues to grow.
