People Have Yet to Come to Grips With How the Trump Presidency Is, In Part, Fallout From Magnitsky-Era Sanctions

Title sounds insane, right?

Ok, but our endless seeking of reward, without risk, allows us to delude ourselves about the consequences of our actions, to the point that we refuse to even recognize them when they punch us in the face.

Sounds reasonable.

Read on.

From a Tweetstorm by Sonic Charmer:
Seems to me people still haven't come to grips with how the Trump Presidency itself is, in part, fallout from Magnitsky-era sanctions.
Sanctions seem so Smart. We're taking a stand! But it's not "war". It's totally peaceful.
What you're doing is not PV'ing any downside.
As if countries/entities subject to our lackadaisical academic discussions of whether/how much to sanction them will just sit there.
AS WE HAVE SEEN TIME AND AGAIN, what they do is flood our politics with money and lobbying and cultivated allies.
You know, 'meddle'.
So instead of 'war' we get a splintering of our own government into suborned factions, internalizing these foreign disputes.
Disputes that should be legitimate domestic policy disputes become converted into 'treason' if one side takes the 'wrong' side.
Take the stance on Assad. Nothing we have been doing in Syria was endorsed by any semblance of domestic approval. They didn't even bother.
But now, because Russia's on the other side (which could've/should've been factored in no?) it's 'treason' to abandon the...aspiration.
Makes you wonder if this was just the sort of foreign Byzantine messiness Washington tried to warn us about.
